Bagels

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, activate the yeast by mixing the yeast with warm water. Add a sprinkle of whole wheat flour to feed the yeast. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes or until foam appears on the surface.
  2. Add the whole wheat flour and more water as needed. Mix and knead well. The dough should be firm and smooth, not dry or sticky.
  3. Add some olive oil to a bottom and sides of the bowl to prevent the dough from sticking. Place the dough in the bowl and let it sit for 1 hour.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
  5. Start to boil a large pot of water.
  6. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces.
  7. Roll each piece into a smooth ball. Then, flatten the ball with your hands and use your thumb to poke a hole in the middle. Smooth out the rest of the bagel.
  8. Once the pot of water is boiling, gently place each bagel in the boiling water for 1 minute per side.
  9. Drain the bagels with a slotted spoon and place onto a baking tray.
  10. Optionally, season your bagels with sesame seeds or everything seasoning.
  11. Bake for 20 minutes.
