Instructions
- In a large bowl, activate the yeast by mixing the yeast with warm water. Add a sprinkle of whole wheat flour to feed the yeast. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes or until foam appears on the surface.
- Add the whole wheat flour and more water as needed. Mix and knead well. The dough should be firm and smooth, not dry or sticky.
- Add some olive oil to a bottom and sides of the bowl to prevent the dough from sticking. Place the dough in the bowl and let it sit for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
- Start to boil a large pot of water.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a smooth ball. Then, flatten the ball with your hands and use your thumb to poke a hole in the middle. Smooth out the rest of the bagel.
- Once the pot of water is boiling, gently place each bagel in the boiling water for 1 minute per side.
- Drain the bagels with a slotted spoon and place onto a baking tray.
- Optionally, season your bagels with sesame seeds or everything seasoning.
- Bake for 20 minutes.
